What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) looks at the body as a whole and aims to restore balance, rather than focusing on one symptom alone. In Thailand, Chinese medicine practitioners are licensed professionals (the “พจ.” licence).
At HanFang Clinic, TCM is offered as care that works alongside modern medicine. If your symptoms need tests or a specialist, the practitioner will tell you.
The four diagnostic methods
These methods support a Chinese medicine assessment. They do not replace blood tests, X-rays or diagnosis by a medical doctor.
- Looking (望 wàng): your complexion, skin, posture, movement and tongue
- Listening and smelling (聞 wén): your voice, breathing, cough and certain odours
- Asking (問 wèn): symptoms, sleep, digestion, appetite, menstrual history, medicines and existing conditions
- Pulse reading (切 qiè): feeling the pulse at both wrists for its rhythm, strength and character
Treatments at HanFang Clinic
- Acupuncture – 1,500 THB per session: fine, sterile single-use needles at points chosen after assessment; the best-researched option for some types of pain
- Cupping – 890 THB per session: suction on the skin for some kinds of muscle tightness; temporary marks usually fade within days
- Gua sha – priced after assessment: gentle scraping of the skin along the muscles with a smooth-edged tool
- Chinese herbal medicine – 900–1,800 THB: prescribed individually after checking your medicines, liver and kidney health and pregnancy

Frequently asked questions
Does Traditional Chinese Medicine replace modern medicine?
No. TCM at HanFang Clinic is supportive care. Keep following your doctor's treatment and do not stop prescribed medicine on your own. If anything suggests you need tests or hospital care, the practitioner will advise you to go first.
How much does a visit cost?
Treatments start at 890 THB (cupping). Acupuncture is 1,500 THB per session and herbal medicine is usually 900–1,800 THB. The practitioner explains the plan and cost before starting.
What is pulse reading?
Pulse reading is one of the four TCM diagnostic methods. The practitioner feels the pulse at both wrists to assess its rhythm, strength and character as part of the overall assessment.
